About Silk

Silk is a natural material, silk thread is made by a silk worm and spun into silk thread which is stronger than steel weight for weight. The thread is woven into silk material which is then coloured and woven threads into patterns. To produce a natural material, that is breathable, washable and kind to the skin. Our silk is grown in Thailand woven and hand made into silk face coverings. The coronavirus pandemic has meant that face masks and coverings will become part of daily life. The UK government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have both advised the wearing of face coverings in a bid to reduce the infection transmission of Covid-19.

Skin experts say that face coverings made of silk are the best to wear if you have problem skin or are worried about the dreaded maskne. Silk face masks
are also gentler on your skin compared with polyester or other types of face masks, and are more breathable than multi-layer cotton. Then there is the touchability factor – silk masks are decidedly more luxurious.

Real Thai Silk should not be confused with soft Satin material which is sometimes called silk or a blend of silk and polyester satin. Our masks are 100% pure natural silk. People must wear face coverings on public transport, in taxis, supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, post offices, travel hubs and shops, as well as in the indoor settings where you are likely to come into contact with people you do not normally meet. In short whenever your in contact with people not in your direct family. The wearing of a face covering is going to be a way of living so why not invest in a quality silk mask, that is comfortable, breathable, washable and easy to wear loose around your neck with the adjustable toggle strap. If people fail to follow the rules, they can be fined £200, apart from people with medical conditions and children under 11.

When choosing your face covering, you’ll want a fabric that’s soft enough to sit on your skin without any discomfort. The more uncomfortable you are, the more likely it is you will touch your face or fiddle with it. Additionally, because masks are fitted to your face, moisture from breathing while wearing one can become trapped on the skin, increasing humidity.

Dr Adil Sheraz, consultant dermatologist and British skin foundation spokesperson says can this can cause breakouts: “The act of constantly adjusting and touching the mask and thus touching your face will transfer oil, dirt and irritants to the skin.“ To minimise all of this, he recommends a custom-fitted mask, but if that is not possible, stick to breathable material such as silk, or silk lined masks. He goes on to say: “A silk mask with multiple layers would be ideal for sensitive
acne-prone skin.” Wearing a silk mask is more environmentally friendly as opposed to throwaway cheap masks that are filling waste tips by the ton with millions being thrown away every day. Try a handmade silk mask, you will see why Silk is the preferred choice for the discerning face covering wearer.
